More FAQ’S

What will it involve?
The practitioner will complete a detailed consultation to establish the scale of stains on your teeth and your teeth whitening improvement goals, all of which will determine your most suitable treatment plan.

It is advised, but not mandatory, to attend a dental hygienist treatment and to do home flossing prior to treatment to achieve best results.

Zoom professional in-clinic tooth whitening is a procedure designed to lighten the colour of the teeth, using a combination of a hydrogen peroxide gel and a specially designed visible LED light lamp. The Zoom treatment involves using the gel and lamp in conjunction with each other to produce maximum whitening results in the shortest possible time. During the procedure, the whitening gel will be applied to the teeth and the teeth will be exposed to the light from the Zoom lamp for four (4) 15-minute sessions.

During the entire treatment, a plastic retractor will be placed in the patient’s mouth to help keep it open, while the soft tissues of the mouth (i.e. lips, gums, cheeks and tongue) will be covered to ensure they are not exposed to either the gel or light. The patient will be provided with a visible LED light filter for their eyes. After the treatment is completed, the retractor and all gel and tissue coverings will be removed from the mouth.

Before and after the treatment, the shade of the upper-front teeth will be assessed and recorded.

Why have the procedure?
This provides a successful procedure to safely remove stains on the teeth. It provides outstanding results in the reduction of stain caused by:

• Cigarettes

• Red wine

• Certain foods

• Tea or coffee

• Medicines, such as tetracycline (antibiotic), or speckled by fluoride

Does it hurt?

Generally no pain is felt. However, you may experience some discomfort from the teeth whitening gel as it can seep onto the gums. Care is taken to make it as comfortable as possible by pre-applying a gel to protect gums.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

Most clients find one treatment sufficient; however depending on the desired effect some smiles require multiple treatments. If the teeth are extremely stained a further session is advised to achieve optimum results, at an interval indicated by the specialist and agreed between you. Further treatment can be booked again in the clinic or performed at home with our available and ready to buy kits.

How quickly will I see the results?

Generally, teeth will appear whiter immediately after a single treatment. However depending on the desired effect some smiles require multiple treatments. Deeper, more effective results progress over a series of treatments.

How long will the results last?
Following treatment, the teeth will appear whiter and brighter for several months. However, this depends on many factors, such as how one cares for the teeth post treatment, diet, and lifestyle. Clear recommendations will be given to you by our specialist, post treatment.

What are the side effects?
Potential side effects may include:

• Tooth Sensitivity/Pain
• Gum/Lip/Cheek Inflammation/Burn
• Dry/Chapped Lips
• Cavities or Leaking Fillings
• Cervical Abrasion/Erosion
• Relapse of colour

For more details of potential side effects please consult with our specialist who is happy to provide more information so that you can make the best decision for yourself and your health. Prior to undertaking the treatment you are required to read and sign a consent form, which will have all details regarding the procedure.

What if I change my mind?

If the Zoom treatment is not for you, our specialist can recommend other treatments. These treatments include: Whitening Toothpastes/Gels, other In-clinic Whitening Treatments, Take-Home Whitening Kits, Porcelain Crowns, Veneers or Composites.

The teeth and gums can feel sensitive post treatment. Clean at home with care.

Avoid exposure to any food or drink that is strong in colour for up to 72 hours as the teeth can be very porous post treatment and results may be affected.

Please consult with your practitioner if you experience any adverse reactions post treatment.
